Rangers not looking to pursue deal for Manchester City youngster James McAtee

Rangers are currently not looking at Manchester City youngster James McAtee, contrary to reports, as per journalist Jonny MacFarlane.

The Rangers review journalist, who is well-connected with the club, wrote on Twitter on 2 July that the Gers are not pursuing a deal for McAtee.

The Scottish Sun reported on 2 July that the Gers are eyeing an ambitious move to sign the 19-year-old on loan this summer.

MacFarlane wrote on Twitter: “I’ve been told Rangers are not looking at Manchester City youngster James McAtee. He’s a player van Bronckhorst is aware of through his time at City Group and there was previous interest but the club are not pursuing a deal in this window.”

Unlikely

A host of English clubs such as Leeds United and Brighton are interested, as well as those in the Championship, with Huddersfield reportedly in the race to sign him.

He would have been a very good signing and it seems Giovanni van Bronkhorst likes him as well, but he is not a target for the club at the moment, even on loan.

The transfer activity needs to be bang on this summer. Amad Diallo was signed from Manchester United on loan in January, but the move didn’t work out as planned.

Aaron Ramsey was another player who was expected to make a huge difference, but it’s fair to say his contributions were below par.

Van Bronckhorst needs to add quality players to the ranks, and he could look to bring in some exciting talents on loan. As of now, Rangers have been very quiet in the market.

John Souttar is the only signing made by the club, but that deal was signed a long time back. Urgency is needed, and hopefully, we will see some top players arriving this month.

In other Rangers news, contract talks with a key player have hit a new impasse with a summer exit now on the cards.
