Rangers approach to sign Norwegian goal machine Erik Botheim is ‘true’
Rangers have “at least” enquired about signing free agent striker Erik Botheim, according to Norwegian journalist Jonas Adnan Giæver.
Writing via his personal Twitter account on Monday (20 June), the Dagbladet journalist reported that “it’s true” that the Gers have made an approach about a potential deal for the 22-year-old but it “remains to be seen whether that leads to an offer or not”.
Last week, BBC Scotland journalist Fraser Fletcher said there’s nothing in the rumours linking Botheim with a move to Ibrox after he himself reported on 16 June that the club is in touch with the striker’s representatives.
Confusing
It’s hard to judge whether there’s any point in getting excited about Botheim potentially heading to Ibrox this summer.
The former Bodo/Glimt striker is a free agent as he’s left Russian club Krasnodar due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
That means that there’s no doubt going to be a big battle to secure a striker who’s clearly one to keep an eye out for in European football.
Before joining Krasnodar from Bodo/Glimt in January, the striker had scored seven goals in 14 appearances in European competitions for the Norwegian club.

He scored once in their disappointing Champions League qualifying campaign before dropping into the Europa League, where the Oslo-born forward scored four goals in the group stages – two of which came in a shock 6-1 win over Roma.
Rangers definitely need to bolster their forward line this summer.
Alfredo Morelos’ contract situation remains up in the air with his deal expiring next year, Kemar Roofe always has injury issues, Fashion Sakala isn’t a consistent goalscorer and Cedric Itten has left.
Botheim is young, hungry, available on a free transfer and would be a big upgrade on some of the options we have already at Ibrox.
Go and get him, Rangers.
In other Rangers news, a Champions League club is close to sealing a move for this Ibrox senior star.
