Ross Wilson prepares to delve into English market to find Rangers next Calvin Bassey
Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson is preparing to “raid England” again to find the Gers’ next Calvin Bassey according to The Daily Record.
Bassey made the move to Ibrox in 2020 for £300,000 as Rangers pinched the defender from Leicester City’s academy.
Rangers now believe they can hold out for a fee of around £25million for the 22-year-old defender.

Now it has been suggested by The Daily Record on Saturday 18 June that Wilson is set to look at the English market again.
The newspaper’s Andrew Newport wrote: “As hard as losing young talent – whether homegrown or pinched from clubs down south – is for the Ibrox faithful to stomach, it’s the stated policy of the club to now to rear their own starlets in the hope of generating vital profits.
“The successful sale of Patterson has only strengthened their resolve as Ross Wilson prepares to raid England again in the hope of finding fresh diamonds that can be polished up and sold on.”
Excellent strategy
The Gers’ strategy to target younger players from England, develop them and then sell them has hit the jackpot with Bassey.
Turing £300,000 into £25million would be some stunt by Wilson and Rangers’ recruitment team.
The number of youngsters that depart Ibrox can be questioned with Rory Wilson the latest to jump ship and make the trip down south to Aston Villa.
However, it is hard to begrudge the Gers transfer strategy when they have been able to generate a good level of profit from developing and selling young players.

£12.6million for Nathan Patterson is another good example of the sustainable model that has been developed at Ibrox.
Rangers fans will be keen to see more of their younger players feature in the first team in years to come instead of being sold on consistently.
Alex Lowry’s end-of-season performance’s certainly caught the eye, with the 18-year-old taking to first-team football with relative ease.
He will certainly be one to keep an eye on heading into the 2022/23 campaign.
In other Rangers news, a Champions League club is closing in on a deal for this Ibrox star.
