Important dates to remember as Rangers prepare for European adventure

Rangers will start their European journey next season in August and the fans will be hoping for another special campaign after last season’s heroics.

Having secured the second spot in the 2021-22 Scottish Premiership, Rangers have secured their Champions League qualifying berth. They will enter the third qualifying round, the draw for which will take place on 18 July, as reported by BBC Sport.

The Bears enjoyed a memorable Europa League campaign last season where they reached the finals and narrowly got beaten by Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Bears are seeded along with Benfica and PSV Eindhoven and will meet either Ligue 1 side Monaco, Austria’s Sturm Graz, Belgium’s Royale Union Saint-Gilloise or the winner of Midtjylland’s second qualifying round tie.

The report adds that the Gers’ first leg will be on 2 or 3 August, with the return on 9 August. The draw for the play-off round will be on 1 August, and the matches will be played on 16-17 and 23-24 August.

After a spectacular Europa journey, the expectations are high this term. The club will want to progress to the group stages of the Champions League this time around, rather than dropping to the Europa League group stages for the fifth season in a row.

The confidence Rangers gained last season could be a big factor. They were fearless, both at home and away, and managed to secure great comeback wins at home.

However, to repeat the heroics in European games on a consistent basis, you need a very strong squad, and that is something the Gers should be looking at this summer.

The club already have retained the services of Connor Goldson and Steven Davies, and the club must look to make strong additions, even though they’ve restrictions on their budget.
