Steven Gerrard to 'run rule' over Rangers target Cameron Archer during pre-season
Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard will “run rule” over Rangers target Cameron Archer during pre-season before making a decision on the youngster’s future.
TalkSPORT football correspondent, Alex Crook, reported the Bears’ interest in the Villans attacker on Twitter [10 June].
The England youth international bagged 20 goals in all competitions during a rather impressive 2021/22 campaign – including seven whilst away on loan at Preston.
After impressing in the Championship, Ryan Lowe is keen on keeping him at the Deepdale Stadium for the 2022/23 season.
Fellow second-tier side, Middleborough will also rival Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side by keeping tabs on the centre-forward.
With this starlet highly-rated at Villa Park, former Gers boss Gerrard is set to take a closer look at the forward before making a decision on his future.

Archer is contracted to the Premier League outfit until 2025 having signed a four-year deal after being promoted from the Lions’ youth set-up in 2021.
Low risk.
This has the potential to be a very good move for the Light Blues. Archer has already proven himself out on loan last season with seven goals but more importantly a catalogue of impressive displays for Preston in the Championship.
The English second tier is no soft touch and proving himself there suggests he has the metal to come to Scotland and do a job. Even if he doesn’t live up to the expectation, a loan deal means it is a very low-risk deal.
Aston Villa will be desperate for him to go somewhere and get game time which he can undoubtedly do if things go well at Ibrox.
Rangers’ options looked a little scarce at times during the 2021/22 campaign with that being their biggest downfall towards the massively important end to their season.
Archer might be able to come in and fill that gap with it still being largely unknown what attacking options van Bronckhorst will be able to pick from next season.
