Ally McCoist tells Rangers to make Gareth Bale an offer

Rangers legend Ally McCoist has told the club to make an offer for superstar free agent Gareth Bale this summer, while appearing on talkSPORT [June 7].

The Real Madrid and Wales legend will leave the Bernabeu at the end of the month when his contract expires after nine years in Spain, but he is looking for a new club after helping his nation reach the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

Rangers have been linked with an interest in the 32-year-old and while Cardiff City are currently seen as favourites for his signature, McCoist believes the Glasgow giants should be trying to convince him to move to Ibrox.

“If I was Rangers I’d go offer him something as well,” he said.

“Listen, he’s at a stage in his life he wants to enjoy himself. We all know he’s a big golf fan, we’ve got the best golf courses.

“I’d bring him up here and say: ‘Look, have a year up here’. The fans will love him, absolutely love him.

“I know the argument would be there was disappointment with Aaron Ramsey, he wasn’t 100 per cent fit, I get that.

“He’s at the stage now, would America be an option? I don’t know him so I can’t speak for him but it looks like he’s a period where he wants to enjoy the last two or three years of his playing career.

“And that’s what I want it to be. I don’t want him to fizzle out as a bit-part player coming on for half an hour.

“He didn’t look anything as sharp as he’s been (against Ukraine) but he’s not going to be. At the same time, come on guys, he’s still got a lot to offer.”

Levels

There are certain levels of player that no matter what are just capable of doing things with a football that others aren’t, and Bale falls into that category.

Despite barely playing football over the last few years after falling out of favour at the Bernabeu, he has shown time and time again that he can deliver at the highest level when he plays for Wales.

Aaron Ramsey has struggled with injuries too and his lack of game time means his loan spell at Ibrox didn’t go as planned, but that shouldn’t put the club off looking at Bale.

He is the type of player who can turn a title race upside down and he will be motivated to stay fit and sharp ahead of the World Cup in November.

A short-term deal should be the priority and if they can pull it off, it would arguably be the biggest transfer in the club’s history.
