It’s been a bit of an open secret in recent months, but it seems as though Connor Goldson is really about to walk away from Rangers and Ibrox for real.

The stalwart central defender has been a rock at the back for four years after joining from Brighton back in 2018, establishing himself as one of the very best in Scotland.

But now as his contract winds down into the final 30 days, the defender has posted what seems to be a goodbye message on his official Instagram account.

There seemed to be hope that the club’s excellent run in Europe at the end of the season where they made it to the Europa League final could be enough to convince him to stay put.

Then as he played a key part in the side that lifted the Scottish Cup and hope was renewed that they would have a chance of renewing his deal beyond this summer.

But while that now seems to be out of the window after his most recent image post on Instagram, it’s time for the Rangers fans to remember the good times.

From an invincible season, to the first Scottish Premiership title since the club’s big problems, to a successful European campaign that put this group of players alongside the Barcelona Bears.

While the club are currently looking for his replacement, there won’t be any chance that whoever comes in as the man for his role will come close to matching his presence in the dressing room.

He’s a leader of men, an example for young players and someone that the experienced men in the squad can rely upon also.

With the club likely to lose Allan McGregor this summer too, it’s a true end of an era at Ibrox. But rather than focus on the fact he’s leaving, the fans should focus on the fact he was there to begin with.

Goldson will go down just shy of being a legend because of the short amount of time he has been at the club for, but all his successes will ensure that the fans keep him in their memory forever.
