West Ham join race for £25m-rated Rangers defender Calvin Bassey

West Ham have joined the race to sign Rangers defender Calvin Bassey in the summer transfer window, according to reports by Daily Mail.

The youngster has established himself as a key man in for the Gers, with his man of the match displays in the Scottish Cup and Europa League finals played this season serving as proof.

The Hammers will face competition from a man known well at Ibrox as Steven Gerrard looks to bolster his Aston Villa squad.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side is eager to keep the Nigeria international who is reportedly in no rush to leave as he makes his breakthrough in Scotland.

However, if the sizeable £25million price tag placed on his head is met – he would likely leave in the summer.

Stay.

You would have thought that Rangers supporters would be used to their star mean being snatched away from them as soon as they show a glimpse of potential but it never gets easier.

Bassey has been in the best form of his Rangers career in the second half of this season – he has been a joy to watch.

Despite being just 22, the defender is excellent and it is scary to think about the levels he may reach as he progresses in his career.

Leicester City will be fuming that they overlooked his talent after letting him come to Glasgow on a free transfer.

The Light Blues are going to make a killing should he leave for the reported £25million fee – that is some business.

Hopefully, he stays because it would be a shame to rip this squad apart after the brilliant season they have just enjoyed together.

Van Bronckhorst will be looking to build on the momentum gained last season and whilst adding to the squad is important to that, keeping his existing stars is even bigger.
