Europa League final: Gordon Parks predicts scoreline of Rangers v Frankfurt
Rangers will take on Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday (18 May) in the Europa League final.
In arguably their biggest game of the decade, the anticipation is high that the Bears will lift the trophy once again after 50 years.
Gordon Parks, a columnist for The Daily Record, has predicted a defeat for the Gers, with the German side tipped to sneak past the Scots with a 1-0 win.
Parks wrote for The Daily Record (18 May, page 56): It’s going to be close and you’d never write off van Bronckhorst’s side but it’s the lack of a natural finisher for the Light Blues which edges this in Frankfurt’s favour.
“This could be a game too far for a Rangers side which continues to defy the odds. Frankfurt 1 Rangers 0.”
As the time approaches for the kick-off, the excitement is reaching fever pitch.
You need to pinch yourself to believe that the Gers are in the final of the Europa League.
What an incredible achievement it will be if they can lift the trophy in Seville tonight.
The Bears have suffered a lot of pain over the last decade, but this is it – they have a chance to rewrite the history once more.
The expectation stems from the fact Rangers have beaten two strong German sides already in this competition, but we all know, it means nothing in a final. It’s a new game.
Still, they will have the confidence in them to beat yet another German side, whatever challenges are thrown at them.
Frankfurt can pose a strong challenge having beaten West Ham in the semi-final, but given the manner, the Gers have reached this far, it looks destined they will cross the final hurdle.
