Stan Collymore wowed by 'exceptional' Leon Balogun as Rangers win v RB Leipzig in Europa League

Stan Collymore was “absolutely delighted” for Leon Balogun after Rangers won their Europa League semi-final against RB Leipzig on Thursday night.

Balogun, 33, came off the bench for the final half-an-hour of the Gers’ 3-1 second-leg victory at Ibrox to help set up a final in Seville against Frankfurt.

After the game, Celtic-mad Collymore was told by a Twitter user to show some respect towards the Light Blues’ achievement.

Collymore simply replied on his personal Twitter account by raving about Nigeria centre-back Balogun.

He said: “I’m absolutely delighted for Leon Balogun, an exceptional human being.”

Wow. Rangers are in the final.

After being knocked out of the Champions League qualifying by Malmo and losing the opening two group games to Lyon and Sparta Prague, who’d have thought we’d be in this position?

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has overseen wins against Borussia Dortmund, Red Star Belgrade, Braga and RB Leipzig to get to this point and now, the Gers are just one win away from one of the biggest achievements in Scottish football.

If they win this and qualify for the Champions League, this goes well beyond Celtic’s nine-in-a-row and their unbeaten domestic treble.

It will go well beyond anything the Gers have done in modern times too.

Rangers do have what it takes to win the final too as while Frankfurt are a very good team having knocked out West Ham and Barcelona, you cannot say they’re a better team than Dortmund of Leipzig.

We’re still a bit in shock, to be honest.

Of course we were praying for a win over Leipzig over two legs but did we think it was genuinely possible? Not really.

In other Rangers news, a Gers employee is in the running to get a manager’s job at a Scottish club.
