Borna Barisic dubbed 'stupid' despite Rangers win v RB Leipzig - Daily Record journalist
Daily Record journalist Fraser Wilson blasted Borna Barisic for his early booking as Rangers beat RB Leipzig in the Europa League semi-finals on Thursday night at Ibrox.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men overturned a one-goal deficit to win 3-1 against the Germans and book their spot in the final against Frankfurt in Seville.
In the print edition of the Daily Record today [6 May, page 54], Wilson has rated the players out of 10 for their performances against Leipzig.
James Tavernier, John Lundstram and Ryan Kent, as expected, scored high with nines but for Barisic, he was given a lowly rating of six.
Fraser said: “Covered plenty of ground. Booked for stupid tackle 20 yards out.”
Not time for criticism
We have had our opinions on Barisic this season but after that monumental win against Leipzig, we’re not going to criticise anyone.
Barisic, at the end of the day, played in what was a historic win for the Light Blues and arguably the biggest victory the club has had since the financial meltdown of 10 years ago.
Van Bronckhorst opted to play a back-three against the Germans, which meant Barisic played in a wing-back or winger role for most of the game.
He did well there and we’re not going to complain about him getting booked in the first half. Who cares after that result?
It’s onto Seville now and an unprecedented double remains on the cards for the Gers despite their Scottish Premiership title bid being all but over.
Celtic may be set to win the league but we now have a Scottish Cup final and a Europa League final to look forward to.
If we win both of them, we’ll be in absolute dreamland and if we’re honest, doing so would be a bigger achievement than winning the league.
In other Rangers news, a Gers employee is in the running to get a manager’s job at a Scottish club.
