Rangers captain James Tavernier pays touching tribute to Rangers' kitman Jimmy Bell

James Tavernier paid tribute to Rangers kitman Jimmy Bell, who sadly passed away today aged 69, as confirmed by the club this morning.

Bell had been part of the club since 1986, and tributes have been made from key figures from Rangers and Scottish football.

Tavernier pointed out that the kitman had been part of the fabric at Rangers since before he was born.

Tavernier said on Twitter: “Although he was officially a ‘kitman’, he was much more than that.

“Few people are synonymous with a football club in the modern-day era, he was at Ibrox for longer than I have been alive.”

The Rangers’ captain added: “The beating heart and soul of our club, the hardest worker, the most dedicated, he was rangers through and through.

“He will always be with us, we will never ever forget him.”

Rangers stalwart

The outpouring of emotion from fans and players both past and present shows the regard Bell was held in at Ibrox.

Bell has seen Rangers go from the very bottom of Scottish football to the very top having been at the club for 30 years.

As reported by the Glasgow Evening Times a Celtic fan made the journey to Ibrox to pay respect to the Rangers legend.

After a heated contested Old Firm Derby on Sunday, it is refreshing to see two of the fiercest rivals in the world come together when football isn’t the priority.

This is not the first time the Old Firm have put aside their differences after mourning a club legend.

In 2019, then Celtic Manager, Neil Lennon, made a trip to Ibrox, as reported by the Scotsman, with Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell to pay respect to Gers’ former player Fernando Ricksen.

Ricksen sadly passed away aged 43 from motor neuron disease and Lennon and Lawwell laid a wreath outside Ibrox to applause from the Ibrox faithful.

It is nice to see mutual respect will always emerge, even in the most bitter of rivalries.
