Kris Commons left gushing over 'phenomenal' Rangers after Celtic win

Kris Commons was left gushing over “phenomenal” Rangers following their Scottish Cup semi-final win against Celtic on Sunday [April 17].

The Gers won the game 2-1 deep into the second half of extra time at Hampden Park thanks to an own goal from Hoops defender Carl Starfelt.

Commons was thrilled by the “sheer desire” of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side as they got one up on their Old Firm rivals.

He wrote in his Scottish Daily Mail column: “What a phenomenal effort that was from Rangers at Hampden. It was a triumph not only of fitness but of courage and sheer desire.

“Their determination to go the extra mile and find some extra reserves of energy and power was all the more impressive given what happened against Braga on Thursday night.

“To go the full distance of 120 minutes and win in extra-time says a lot about a team’s attitude. To do it twice in a matter of days is truly remarkable.

“All the more so when you consider the context of both games. It’s not unreasonable to suggest that Rangers’ entire season hinged on the outcome of both of these games.”

Season defining.

Wow. What a huge week it has been for Rangers and van Bronckhorst. They could have ended this week with nothing but instead, they still have everything to play for.

The Dutchman needed a couple of huge results to resurrect his Ibrox career as major question marks started to creep in regarding the 47-year-old and he got them from his players against Braga and Celtic.

It was imperative for the Gers’ domestic pride that they got one back on the Hoops after they took a huge step towards winning the title at Ibrox a few weeks ago they just need to go and finish the job now and lift the trophy.

Both results seem that much more impressive when you consider the absence of Alfredo Morelos.

Not many people would have thought the last two results would have been possible without the breathtaking Columbian but his teammates have kicked it up a gear in his absence.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are aiming to trump their rivals with big summer transfer plans according to Dean Jones.
