Rangers aim to trump rivals with big summer transfer plans - Dean Jones
Rangers have taken a major step ahead of their rivals in a bid to strengthen their squad in the summer transfer window, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.
Giovanni van Bronkhorst is keen on adding to his attacking ranks as the Dutchman looks to fight Celtic for the league title next season.
The Gers are eager to trump other clubs and move early in the window with a major end of season rebuild mooted with several senior players out of contract at the end of the season.
Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I know they’ve already been speaking about potential targets for the window, which is quite interesting given we’re still only halfway through April.
“A lot of clubs aren’t that far down the road in terms of defining where they want to head.”
Rangers’ rebuild in the summer is long overdue and this season has served as proof.
That isn’t to say they have performed terribly but the squad has looked a little bit tired and in desperate need of a freshen up.
January looked to be a great month with Amad Diallo and Aaron Ramsey coming in to give the squad a massive boost and whilst the Welshman has done better in recent weeks, neither one has taken Scotland by storm.
The loan duo will be departing in the summer which frees up some room for a couple of signings.
Connor Goldson, Scott Arfield, Steven Davis, Leon Balogun and Allan McGregor are also out of contract at the end of the season and will need replacing if they don’t extend.
Planning now seems a little premature but with so much work to do in the summer, it is a very smart move.
