Barry Ferguson thrilled by Rangers v West Ham Europa final possibility

Barry Ferguson is thrilled by the prospect of Rangers meeting West Ham in the final of the Europa League.

Despite losing 1-0 from the first leg, the Gers dumped Braga in the quarter-finals, winning 3-1 at Ibrox, and 3-2 on aggregate.

The Bears will face RB Leipzig in the semi-final. West Ham, on the other hand, progressed to the last four after beating Lyon.

There is a possibility that the two British sides will meet each other in the final, and Ferguson feels that would be “incredible”.

“As I sat and watched the win over Braga, I felt myself thinking that there’s nothing more I would want than to see than these boys to go one step further and achieve something that would be out of this world. What dreams are made of,” wrote Ferguson for the Daily Record.

“Reaching the semi-finals is a brilliant achievement and nothing should be taken away from this group of players for getting there.

“Going into the last four, of course, it is going to be hard. Leipzig will be favourites for the tie over the two legs but that’s what you want.

“You want to go into it with the pressure more on the opposition and, if Rangers can produce those sort of Dortmund displays again, they have every chance of getting into the final and possibly meeting West Ham.

“Could you imagine a Battle of Britain Final? It would be incredible. But one step at a time. The semi-final comes first and Rangers fully deserve to be in it because they were excellent against Braga.”

Dream final

Ferguson is absolutely spot on here.

Having reached this far, the Gers should feel confident about reaching the finals, although Leipzig will start as favourites.

The Bears knocked out two very good teams – Borussia Dortmund and Red Star Belgrade – already and made an incredible comeback from behind to win against Braga.

Obviously, failing to close the gap with Celtic in the league was disappointing, but the players will be extremely proud of themselves if they can reach the Europa League final at least, let alone win it.

West Ham have done remarkably well in this competition having beaten the likes of Sevilla and Lyon.

It could be really incredible to have two British clubs in the final, but Rangers won’t mind facing any side as long as they keep winning.
