Rangers will need major transfer business, Connor Goldson top of list to replace – Kenny Miller

Rangers face losing multiple starters in the summer and require a major transfer window to replace them according to Kenny Miller.

Centre back Connor Goldson is out of contract and may leave, while the former Gers striker expects bids for other players to come in too.

And Miller believes the club have a duty to improve the squad either way, especially considering the Scottish Premiership title looks to be heading back to Celtic.

Miller told Go Radio, via the Daily Record: “If Connor Goldson leaves there’s going to be a huge addition needed. He’s been an ever-present, he’s started pretty much every single game since he arrived at the club four years ago.

“He’ll need to be replaced, that’s the first one.

“There may be bids in for other players that may leave, players who have been starters.

“But even if everyone stays, you have to improve. You can’t just rest on your laurels, that’s something we saw with Celtic two or three years ago when they allowed Rangers to get back into it.”

Overhaul

What a difference a game makes, but after losing a second consecutive league meeting with Celtic it is clear change will be needed.

The title-winning side from last season has morphed into a cup team that has only been able to produce its best in European ties for some weeks.

If they had triumphed on Sunday (3 April) then the prospect of a historic season would have been on.

But having dropped points five times in the league since Christmas heading into that game, six times now, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side arguably don’t deserve to defend their crown.

They can still rescue the season with a Europa League triumph, but with the crushing news that Alfredo Morelos is out for the remainder of the season, it suddenly feels like a changing of the guard is on the horizon.

John Souttar is already on his way and should help fill the gap if Goldson leaves.

But he alone will not be enough to lift the entire side for next so it could be a busy summer at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, the club are in the hunt for a young Scottish defensive talent but face stiff competition from English sides already.
