Rangers tell Sky Sports News what really happened with anniversary kit fiasco v Aberdeen

Rangers did register their special anniversary kit with the SFA and SPFL before this season started, according to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph.

Writing via his personal Twitter account, Joseph says that “Rangers have told Sky Sports News today [6 March] that they did register their special edition kit in the summer.”

This comes after Joseph tweeted yesterday that the SFA and SPFL said they did not receive a request to wear the anniversary kit for the 1-0 win over Aberdeen at Ibrox.

What a mess

Let’s say it for what it is, someone is lying or someone really isn’t doing their job properly.

Whether the SFA and SPFL lost the paperwork submitted by the Gers in the summer or whether someone at Rangers didn’t follow the correct procedures, we’ll probably never know.

However, it’s a massive shame that for all the promotional work, the Light Blues didn’t wear the all-white kit we were expecting them to wear against Aberdeen.

Rangers

Joseph reports that Rangers say they’ll wear the 150th anniversary kit at another game in the future. Joseph also relayed Rangers saying the club “felt it was fitting to wear our traditional blue home strip”.

What is it then? Was the club blocked from wearing the kit because it apparently wasn’t registered before the season started? Or did Rangers feel as though it was best to wear the usual blue kit?

None of this really makes sense and we doubt that we’ll get any clarity from the SFA and SPFL, nor from the club who deems it acceptable to play a friendly match against Celtic in Australia.

Rangers are slowly but surely alienating their fanbase – again.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are in pursuit of a Dutch ace who van Bronckhorst handed his senior debut.
