Marc Wilson brands Aaron Ramsey a ‘waste of money’
Former Celtic defender Marc Wilson says Aaron Ramsey has been a ‘waste of money’ and Rangers should’ve spent the cash on John Souttar instead.
The Light Blues signed Ramsey on loan from Juventus for the rest of the season on deadline day, while they signed John Souttar on a pre-contract agreement for the summer too earlier in the month.
But Ramsey made just four appearances in total, with one start, before suffering an injury and Wilson told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard that the club should’ve seen it coming and spent the money on strengthening their defence instead.

“Certainly now when you look at it, but nobody could predict Aaron Ramsey was going to come in and play against Annan and get injured,” he said.
“We know he’s got injury problems, but he was presumed fit when he signed. But he has been a waste of money.
“I know it’s not anywhere near what people think he’s getting paid, but that money could have went to John Souttar.
“I believe that John Souttar would have been in that side most games.”
Point made
Ramsey was a hugely exciting signing at the time, with Rangers sitting top of the table and looking relatively unstoppable at the time.
However a string of poor results and fitness problems for the Welshman have had people questioning just how much he was needed in the first place.

His quality is obvious and he can win games himself, but he has to be fit and available to do that and that seems like a huge obstacle for him currently.
Rangers are playing without him anyway, so if you had told the club in advance that they could put that money towards bringing in Souttar early and bolstering their leaky defence they probably would have done.
It’s too late now and Ramsey could still make a game-changing impact between now and the end of the season, but Bears fans will be wondering what-if if he doesn’t.
