Rangers to play behind-closed-doors friendly v Brentford next week – report

Rangers will field a team to play Brentford in a behind-closed-doors friendly next week to help Christian Eriksen get back to full fitness, according to Sky Sports.

Eriksen signed for the Premier League club on a short-term contract during the January transfer window after being released by Inter Milan following his heart attack at Euro 2020 in the summer.

The former Spurs midfielder hasn’t played competitively since then and is looking to build his fitness ahead of a return to action for Brentford this season.

After completing 60 minutes and registering an assist in a behind-closed-doors friendly last week, it’s now believed there will be a second game this week with Rangers as the opposition.

With the Bears facing Dundee United on Sunday and then Borussia Dortmund at Ibrox on Thursday in their Europa League 2nd leg, it will likely be a B team that takes on Brentford in the game.

Nice gesture

Eriksen’s return to the beautiful game was arguably the moment of the year for football fans around the world.

When he gets back on the pitch in a competitive nature then it will be a moment across the world that is noticed.

For Rangers to have any type of participation in getting him back to full health to be able to play again is a lovely gesture by the club.

Rangers

The club don’t have many injured players who would need a run-out themselves, but it will be an extra chance for the young players to get a run-out and test themselves against one of Europe’s best playmakers of the last decade.

If a Rangers player is able to make a big impression during the session then there’s no reason they couldn’t potentially make the squad for Dortmund on Thursday, but this is more about Eriksen than anything or anyone else.
