Ronald De Boer backs Rangers pursuit of Danilo Doekhi
Ronald de Boer has backed Rangers to sign Danilo Doekhi as ‘one for the future’ and thinks he will make them a stronger team, writing in his Scottish Sun column.
Rangers have been linked with a move for the 23-year-old central defender on a free transfer from Vitesse in the summer [Scottish Daily Mail], but face competition from PSV Eindhoven.
With Connor Goldson expected to leave on a free transfer and Leon Balogun’s contract also expiring, Giovanni van Bronckhorst is keen to refresh his defensive options.

Former Rangers star De Boer, who won the treble with the club in the 2002/03 season, believes Doekhi would make Rangers a better team and is ‘very promising’.
“[Danilho] Doekhi is a very promising player,” he said.
“He is a physical central defender. He’s tall but good with the ball and able to build up from behind. He’s a good defender but can still learn and continue to improve.
“I think he’s one for the future and would be a good signing, who could help Rangers and make them a stronger team.”
Boost
It’s big praise when a club legend endorses a transfer, but to say he’d improve the team is a big statement.
This is a Rangers side who won the league at a canter last year and this year are well in the race again, as well as competing in Europe in the knockout stages.

Doekhi is a powerful defender, described as ‘tremendous’ by Alex McLeish in the past, and would likely be brought in as a replacement for current captain Goldson.
John Souttar has already been signed for the summer, but Doekhi’s attributes would see him partner well with the Scot rather than compete for a single spot.
Van Bronckhorst can put his own stamp on the side this summer and Doekhi would go a long way to doing that. De Boer approves, so fans should too.
