We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has been thrilled by reports linking Rangers with a move for Vitesse defender Danilho Doekhi.
Mike McGrath of the Telegraph has reported that the Bears are preparing a summer swoop for the 22-year-old, who could be available on the cheap.
McLeish admitted that players brought up in the Dutch are made to be confident on the ball and therefore we could see a “tremendous” player arrive at Ibrox.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “It seems that he is a player with tremendous potential.
“As a centre back, he’s playing in a league that actually lives on total football philosophy. So, you know you’re going to get a player probably who is a really good footballer.”
The last couple of weeks have highlighted issues within the squad depth at the back for Steven Gerrard to contend with.
Leon Balogun and Filip Helander have both struggled through injuries and that left Jack Simpson alongside Conor Goldson against Celtic, someone who definitely struggled.
That could lead to a loan move next season with Doekhi coming in to fill the gap left by the former Bournemouth man.
Given our dominance in games, any defender coming into the club has to be able to spray the ball around with ease and create chances or breaks on his own accord.
Given McLeish’s glowing verdict, this is clearly exciting.
