Rangers ‘need more’ from Ryan Kent says Ally McCoist

Rangers were overwhelmed early on against Celtic and Gers legend Ally McCoist was not happy with one player in particular in the first half.

English winger Ryan Kent was the subject of McCoist’s displeasure after he failed to challenge his opposite number in the Old Firm derby.

It has been a poor season by the 25-year-old’s high standards with just two goals scored in 18 appearances in all competitions.

“I’m not sure he’s got going all season,” McCoist said on commentary for Sky Sports. “He’s vital to Rangers in terms of beating people and creating a bit of space. We need more from him.”

Time to be dropped

On his day, Kent is usually the best player on the park but he has hit that form so rarely this season that he needs to be reminded his place in the side is not guaranteed.

There are players on the bench that are craving to be given a chance in the team in a wide area but they have been stuck behind Kent for much of this season.

The arrival of Amad Diallo to play on the right of the front three ahs secured that place but the likes of Scott Wright and Fashion Sakala are begging for an opportunity.

Sakala in particular has been electric whenever he has played for the Light Blues and he has been unfairly left out in favour of the out of form Kent too many times.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst needs to make bold decisions like this if he is to prevent Celtic from beating them to the Scottish Premiership title because everyone needs to be on it for every game.
