Rangers will not table last-gasp bid to sign John Souttar from Hearts

Rangers will not make a third and final bid to sign John Souttar from Hearts on deadline day, according to The 4th Official.

The reliable Gers source reports that they’ve been told by someone close to the Ibrox board that there will not be a last-ditch bid and they are happy with Souttar, who’s already agreed a pre-contract, to move to Ibrox in the summer.

The 4th Official’s source has said: “Totally up to Hearts. There’s 300 grand sitting on the table.”

The 4th Official has become a top source of stories from the Light Blues and their recent link-up with Fabrizio Romano shows their growing fame among the fanbase. They also worked together on Nathan Patterson’s move to Everton earlier this month.

Not happening

It’s a shame that we have not been able to get this one over the line and Hearts’ bitterness about losing Souttar seems to be showing.

We have offered a perfectly reasonable amount of money for a player who’s leaving them for nothing in the summer regardless, yet they won’t take it.

They’re probably doing it out of spite, to stop the Gers from improving their side and improving their chances of beating them later this season.

You can understand that in a way but it’s also quite petty.

Souttar should be a good signing but our defence could really do with him now, as shown on Saturday.

While Ross County are scoring goals for fun, our defence should have coped a lot better with their attack.

Yes, Allan McGregor made a mess ahead of two of the goals but if we had a stronger defence, they might not have got the other goal that counted.

Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun are probably going in the summer, Jack Simpson is nowhere near good enough, Filip Helander has been injured most of the season and Nikola Katic is unlikely to be in the thinking with him out on loan.

Calvin Bassey isn’t a centre-back either so there’s a massive reason to upgrade the defence right now.

In other Rangers news, a player has been spotted at Glasgow Airport ahead of joining the Light Blues.
