Giovanni van Bronckhorst makes contact with Pep Guardiola as Rangers want to sign James McAtee – report

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has made contact with Pep Guardiola as Rangers look to sign Manchester City talent James McAtee, according to the 4th Official.

The online source, who nailed updates on Nathan Patterson’s move to Everton and have collaborated with Fabrizio Romano, shared the latest on another potential last-gasp transfer at Ibrox.

It is suggested that other Premier League sides are interested, but Guardiola is concerned about the playing time on offer there, which is where Rangers come in.

Writing on the 4th Official Patreon page (27 January), the major update was shared with another loan move targeted.

“Rangers are far from done in this transfer window,” they wrote. “Rangers are currently interested in landing James McAtee on loan, one of the best young players of Manchester City.

“Several Premier League clubs are interested, but Pep Guardiola is concerned about how much game time he will get at a Premier League side right now. That is where Rangers have an opening.

“According to one of my sources, Giovanni van Bronckhorst has apparently already had a conversation with Guardiola for the 19-year-old attacking midfielder. However, the competition for the player is high given the number of clubs interested.”

GvB Magic.

Wow, this is exactly what we wanted when Van Bronckhorst first arrived at Ibrox a couple of months ago.

Gio has plenty of contacts in football given his history at the likes of Arsenal and Barcelona, and he is putting in the work already.

McAtee could follow Amad Diallo through the doors to Ibrox on loan from the Premier League, and it would be the perfect signing.

Midfield has been a problem area, with James Sands not hitting the ground running yet, and Juninho Bacuna leaving Glasgow this week.

MSN has recently described McAtee as the next “Phil Foden” in a glowing reference for what we could expect.

With the deadline fast approaching, we are expecting movement very quickly before Monday evening.
