BBC Sportscene pundit stunned by ‘unbelievable’ Arfield in Rangers win v Livingston

Richard Foster was blown away by Scott Arfield’s “unbelievable” goal for Rangers in their 1-0 win over Livingston at Ibrox on Wednesday night.

Arfield, 33, grabbed his fourth goal of the season in stunning style against his former club to help secure all three points fot the Gers in what was a frustrating evening.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst substituted the Canada midfielder into the game in the 59th minute and 16 minutes later, it was his spectacular goal that won the tie.

Ex-Rangers defender Foster was stunned by the technique involved in Arfield guiding the ball into the back of the net after Borna Barisic’s cross.

“It’s good play down the left from Rangers and Arfield just kind of wanders into the space,” said Stewart on BBC Sportscene on Wednesday night [26 January].

“You wouldn’t say it’s a great cross but that, that is unbelievable – there’s no other way you can finish that.

“That is just brilliant to have the speed of thought to just loop it over the goalkeeper, to have the technique and the ability to do it.”

At his best

Have we seen Arfield in a better run of form at Rangers than we have done since van Bronckhorst was hired in November?

Arfield scored against Livingston in van Bronckhorst’s first league game in charge and the ex-Burnley midfielder has since played in all but one league match since.

The only Scottish Premiership game Arfield has missed under van Bronckhorst’s charge was the 1-1 draw with Aberdeen last week – there’s no coincidence there.

Joe Aribo should be back in contention to play at Ross County on Saturday while Arfield will probably be able to start too after his short spell on the sidelines with an injury.

James Sands and Alex Lowry could make way for Aribo and Arfield, who have probably been our best players since van Bronckhorst came in.

It’ll be harsh on Lowry for him to lose his spot after a stunning couple of performances but Arfield and Aribo simply have to play.

In other Rangers news, Fabrizio Romano has dropped a major update on the Gers’ pursuit of Andreas Skov Olsen.
