GvB confirms Rangers will look to sign players after Ianis Hagi blow

Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst has suggested today (25 January) that the Gers will look to sign players towards the end of the window.

The Gers have suffered a “big blow” today after the Dutchman confirmed that Ianis Hagi will miss the rest of the season.

Hagi picked up a knock on his knee during the 4-0 win against Stirling Albion in the last match, and everyone was quite hopeful that he could shake it off.

However, the Romanian underwent an operation yesterday (24 January) and he won’t feature again this season.

The Dutchman has added that the club “will look” to replenish the void by adding a player this month only if the right candidate is available.

Interesting

Hagi has been one of the most consistent performers for the Gers this season and losing him is a huge blow.

Rangers do have players to fill his void but adding an extra quality will make a big difference.

The Gers are still top of the SPFL table although Celtic are breathing down their neck. Plus, they have European competition to focus on.

The Scottish champions have made only signing this month, with James Sands joining on loan from New York City.

Hearts defender John Souttar has agreed a pre-contract agreement with the Gers and it remains to be seen if Rangers will try to bring him to Ibrox this month.

There’s money to spend, however. Rangers sold Nathan Patterson for a club-record fee to Everton and the club can easily go out in the market and bring a proper replacement for Hagi.

Having said that, Van Bronckhorst is unlikely to sign players just for the sake of it. Youngster Alex Lowry impressed in the last match on his debut and he could be given chances to cement his place in the side.
