Joe Aribo to be available for Rangers in Old Firm derby

Rangers have been given a huge boost ahead of the Old Firm derby after Joe Aribo was made available after Nigeria were eliminated from AFCON.

Aribo was a doubt for the game with Nigeria expected to be among the finalists in the African Cup of Nations, especially after winning three out of three group games.

But the Super Eagles suffered a 1-0 defeat to Tunisia on Sunday night which now means that Aribo will be returning to Ibrox sooner than expected and will be available for selection against Celtic.

The Old Firm derby takes place on February 2nd but Rangers have two games prior to that.

Aribo is unlikely to feature against Livingston on Wednesday, but the away game against Ross County on Sunday afternoon could be the perfect way to ease him back into domestic action ahead of the game.

The Nigerian midfielder is without a doubt one of the best midfielders in the country and his performances with Nigeria during the AFCON tournament proved that.

He was influential in their group stage victories and was one of the better players in a poor team showing against Tunisia in the last 16.

His performances for Rangers have been excellent since signing for the club and they are desperate to try and get him to re-sign with the club as his current deal expires in 2023.

Previously described as ‘unreal‘, his return to the team is a huge positive for the club and their title chase after they saw their lead cut following a draw with Aberdeen in their return following the winter break.

Rangers can look to pull away once again in the title race, and Aribo will be a key part of that if they are to do so.
