Ally McCoist hails Rangers starlet Lowry after he ‘lit up the place’ on debut
Rangers legend Ally McCoist has voiced his admiration of the latest starlet coming out of Ibrox, Alex Lowry, after his dream debut against Stirling Albion.
The 18-year-old came on for the injured Ianis Hagi to score in front of a delighted Ibrox Stadium on his first appearance for the first team.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side went on to win 4-0 in the Scottish Cup to advance with very little difficulty.

“Didn’t he take his opportunity well?” McCoist said on BT Sport’s Scottish Football Extra (25 January, 06:50 pm). “When Alex Lowry came on, he kind of lit up the place.
“A youngster coming in, full of enthusiasm, really wanting to do well. I won’t forget his face when he scored that goal for a long, long time.”
More chances to come
Lowry certainly didn’t do himself any harm against the League Two side and he could earn himself more game time with Hagi now ruled out for the season.

Nigeria’s premature exit from the Africa Cup of Nations might see his chances dwindle in the next week with Joe Aribo arriving back at Rangers earlier than anticipated.
But to have such a glowing review from McCoist, a former player he no doubt idolises, is going to give him a huge boost of confidence.
His ability to take to the big stage with complete belief in his own ability helped him to own the arena on his first game and that is a quality the van Bronckhorst should use.
Lowry needs to play semi-regularly this season and he could become a permanent fixture in the Gers side next year.
In other Rangers news, we believe the club needs to act now to sign this teenage sensation.
