Rangers could finalise John Souttar transfer in next 24 hours - report

Rangers could seal the major signing of Hearts defender John Souttar in the next 24 hours, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper has reported in their print edition (14 January) that sources in England believe the move is imminent.

Souttar will initially sign a pre-contract deal with the view to hopefully turn it into a permanent move before the end of the month.

This one has been going on for weeks at Ibrox.

With Sheffield United and Blackburn also pushing for a deal south of the border, things were looking difficult.

It has been clear that the English clubs could offer bigger financial packages than the Bears at this moment in time.

The goal of finishing as champions yet again and the direct qualification to the Champions League looks to have won Souttar over though

Critical.

What a huge boost this would be.

The early winter break has seen things come to a halt, but we could have made two signings before our return to action next week.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be desperate to get back to action against Aberdeen, and improving his squad beforehand is perfect.

There is no chance of Souttar coming permanently before that game, though, and if that was to happen, it would come late in the window.

Beating English sides with more suggested financial power is just another sign of how far we have come in recent years.

We expect that to continue, with Ibrox clearly the place to be in Scotland at this moment in time – we can’t wait for more.
