David Edgar: Cedric Itten on his final chance at Rangers, Cammy Bell reacts
David Edgar has insisted that Rangers forward Cedric Itten has been given his “last chance” to make it at Ibrox.
The Swiss international has returned from his loan spell at Greuther Furth this week after leaving at the start of the season.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst activated the clause after the exit of Jermain Defoe, who has had his spell at the club terminated.
Speaking on the latest update on the Heart and Hand Patreon, Edgar shared his view on the decision in the past 24 hours.
“It’s a last chance for him at Ibrox, obviously,” he said. “It would be fantastic if he took it.”
Cammy Bell was back on the Daily Update and shared his verdict on that news with the Swiss man coming back to Glasgow.
“My assumption is that Van Bronckhorst plans to use him, so if he comes back to Rangers with the necessary focus to implement himself to the team, we’ll know that Gio will give him that opportunity.”
Last chance saloon.
Van Bronckhorst loves a big, powerful target man in the final third, and Itten certainly ticks all of those boxes.
From working with the likes of Robin Van Persie at Feyenoord, this is the type of player Itten will need to try and replicate.
After Steven Gerrard left the club, the forward will have targeted a return to Glasgow to try and prove himself once and for all.
It has never quite worked out on the whole, but a shot at more consistent minutes between now and the end of the season could change that.
If not, we can expect a permanent exit once the summer window opens.
