Chris Wilder wants Rangers defender Jack Simpson at Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough manager Chris Wilder wants to sign Rangers defender Jack Simpson, according to The Daily Record.

The report claims that like him, several English club managers are eyeing a January loan swoop for the out-of-favour centre-back.

The 25-year-old has started just one league game all season and is expected to leave Ibrox in the due course.

Make it permanent

Simpson’s deal at the club runs out in 2025 and there are no guarantees that he will improve with time.

The smart thing would be for Rangers to cash in on his services or at least include an obligation to buy in his loan deal.

There are a number of clubs in England who would be willing to take the punt on him so there’s a market for Gers to cash in.

Growing interest often gives rise to inflated transfer valuations and hopefully, they take full advantage of his situation.

Tim Davis, his former youth coach at Weymouth labelled him “amazing” [Dorset Echo], but he clearly has been anything but in recent months.

He said about Simpson in 2018, “He was a natural born leader.

“As a kid, he wasn’t blessed with the most natural talent, like some are, but he had an amazing drive and determination.”

It remains to be seen if he can get his career back on track south of the border, but his future does not appear to be a Ibrox.
