Blackburn Rovers not pursuing Rangers target John Souttar
Blackburn Rovers are reportedly not considering making a move for Rangers target and Hearts defender John Souttar in January.
According to Sun journalist Alan Nixon, Gers are continuing to battle Sheffield United for the 25-year-old’s services.
However, Blackburn who were in talks to sign the Scottish defender this month, are not believed to be keen on signing him.
Via his personal Twitter account, Nixon responded to a fan who asked whether Blackburn are still in the race.
He said, “No real need right now.”
This comes as big news for Gers and their quest to sign the 25-year-old this month or at the end of the season.
Blackburn and Sheffield were understood to be the two rivals battling Rangers for Souttar’s services.
However, it now seems that the race is down to just two teams and it could be down to which team is willing to bid more.
The player’s contract expires at the end of the season so if he decides to continue at Hearts, then Sheffield, and not Rangers, will be available to agree pre-contract terms with him.
This puts Gers at a disadvantage so they must do everything they can to try and sign him this month.
Given the fact that his contract his running out, Hearts could be tempted to sell him at a discounted fee as well.
Rangers could sweep up and secure his signing within the next week or two and are understood to be waiting for his decision.
Souttar. who has been labelled “incredible” in 2017, would be an exceptional signing and arguably an upgrade on Connor Goldson.
In other Rangers news, a January move is on the cards for South American ace who made headlines in 2021.
