David Edgar: Giovanni van Bronckhorst doesn’t want new Rangers signings who need over managing
David Edgar has insisted that Giovanni van Bronckhorst won’t want to sign players who need over managing at Rangers in January.
The Heart and Hand regular has shared that the Dutchman wants reliability and not players who can’t string more than two or three starts together.
The defence is coming under scrutiny during the January window, with John Souttar and Danilho Doekhi strongly linked with a switch to Ibrox.

Speaking in a recent Q&A on the Heart and Hand Patreon, Edgar shared the latest on Van Bronckhorst’s thinking going into the rest of the month.
“I don’t think Gio is particularly keen on players who need to be managed,” he said.
“I think it’s something we saw with Allan McGregor. When he initially arrived, one of the first things he said was, ‘the goalkeeper needs to play every week’ and if he can’t, then he can’t play.
“I think that may apply to defenders as well, I don’t think Gio wants to be changing his centre-backs game-to-game because they can’t play two or three in a row.”

Smart.
Things had started to go stale under Steven Gerrard at the start of this season, and there was an obvious reason why.
Our former boss was making too many changes, with Allan McGregor and Jon McLaughlin consistently switching as one example.
We need more consistency at Ibrox, and it looks as though we have finally got that under Van Bronckhorst.
The likes of Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent have benefitted from that massively, and any new signings are going to too moving forward.
