Rangers face competition for Crysencio Summerville signing – report

Rangers are facing competition to sign Crysencio Summerville from Leeds after it emerged that Blackburn Rovers want him on loan, according to Daily Record.

After the arrival of Giovanni van Bronckhorst mid-season, the Ibrox side have been linked with several Dutch players as he looks to bring ‘total football’ to Glasgow.

One name linked was Leeds United starlet Summerville, who made his Premier League debut as a substitute against Arsenal earlier this season.

According to Daily Mail [01 January; printed edition, page 112], Rangers were exploring the possibility of a loan move for the Dutch winger in January. It’s now claimed however that they will face competition from Championship promotion challengers Blackburn.

Van Bronckhorst is said to be keen to have a reunion with the player he gave a debut to at Feyenoord, but Blackburn could pip him to the post.

Push

Summerville is an exciting 20-year-old talent, who has been dubbed as ‘superb‘ in the past by ex-Leeds man Noel Whelan.

At 20-years-old the most exciting thing for Summerville will be regular gam time and the likelihood is that he would receive far more playing time away from Elland Road.

Blackburn are pushing for promotion to the Premier League and want to bolster their attack, but Rangers can offer European football and a title race in the Scottish Premiership.

The likelihood however is that Summerville would fall behind Joe Aribo, Ryan Kent and Ianis Hagi in the pecking order at Ibrox and so would need to push hard to get plenty of minutes.

He will already know the manager though and the chances of him getting an opportunity to perform are high, so it’s a move that he should seriously consider.

If Rangers want to get a deal done they should look to move quickly, because Blackburn just lost Ian Poveda on loan from Leeds through injury so negotiating for Summerville may not be too difficult.

In other Rangers news, club ‘insist’ on making signing in January, preparing an offer.
