John Souttar to make final decision next week as Rangers reps locked in talks – report

Hearts defender John Souttar is set to make a final decision on his next move as early as next week, with Rangers locked in talks.

That’s according to the Daily Record, who report that the Scotland international will decide where to sign his next pre-contract deal.

It is reported that there are up to 10 clubs chasing the signature of Souttar, with Rangers said to be one of the leading contenders.

Rangers

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is looking to improve his defence massively during January, with a pre-contract move also on the cards for Vitesse skipper Danilho Doekhi.

Souttar’s next move and final decision is set to be decided by who can offer the best financial and footballing package.

It is said that Ibrox representatives hope that the guarantee of winning the Scottish Premiership and Champions League football can tip the balance in their direction.

Rangers

Do whatever it takes.

It is clear that this is the one area that needs strengthening at Ibrox.

Van Bronckhorst has injury issues with the likes of Filip Helander and Leon Balogun as well as the contract issues with Connor Goldson.

On top of that, Jack Simpson is out of the picture and now looks likely to leave Glasgow in the imminent future [Jordan Campbell].

That leaves Leon King and Calvin Bassey as the other options, one has little-to-none senior experience, and the other is a left-back by trade, although his performances through the middle have been outstanding.

Bringing in Souttar would fix that issue, with the 25-year-old brilliant and more importantly consistent at Tynecastle this season.

You don’t have 10 clubs chasing you for no reason, and hopefully Champions League football and fighting for consistent silverware is enough to jump above those south of the border trying their luck.
