Craig Moore: John Souttar would be excellent for Rangers

Craig Moore has suggested that Hearts defender John Souttar would be an “excellent signing” for Rangers.

According to reports from Edinburgh News, the Gers could seal a permanent deal for the defender in January.

Moore says that he would love to see Giovanni van Bronckhorst signing the 25-year-old defender, but feels the player could head down to the south as well, due to the money involved in English leagues.

His contract expires at the end of the season, and Rangers can sign him on free in the summer, with the defender now able to open pre-contract talks.

Moore told Go Radio as transcribed by The Daily Record: “I see someone like Souttar coming from Hearts, with his injury problems and proved that he’s back and a top player.

“I think Rangers will definitely give it a fair shake in terms of trying to get him on board.

“I think when you’re a player coming out of contract and your stock is sky high, which I think Souttar is, in a really good position, then financially there can be better opportunities down south.

“I just feel as if the opportunity for him is going to be down south, but I’d love to see Rangers give everything they’ve got to try to secure a player like this. I think he’d be excellent for Rangers.”

Make it happen

Van Bronckhorst could be looking to bolster his defence in the January window, and Souttar would be a good addition.

The future of Connor Goldson is still up in the air, and irrespective of whether he pens a new deal or not, bolstering that area is necessary.

Souttar is one of Scotland’s best defenders and Rangers should look to bring him to Ibrox by paying a fee now.

The money is available after Rangers sold Nathan Patterson to Everton on a club-record deal. James Sands has arrived already and adding Souttar to the ranks would be a superb business.

In fact, Rangers have done incredibly well in luring top players from rival clubs in recent years, and Souttar’s deal could follow the same pattern.

Hearts are in a good position in the league and they may want to keep hold of their star player. But they could be tempted to earn some money now rather than losing him for free in the summer.
