Rangers in strong position to seal Bosman deal for Vitesse star Danilho Doekhi

Rangers are in a strong position to sign Vitesse defender Danilho Doekhi in a pre-contract deal this month, according to Jordan Campbell.

The Athletic journalist has reported that the 23-year-old enforcer wouldn’t arrive until the summer in this Bosman move.

Doekhi is said to tick all of the boxes for Giovanni van Bronckhorst as he looks to strengthen his defence at Ibrox.

Writing for The Athletic earlier today (6 January), Campbell shared the latest on a potential move for the defender.

“One player Rangers have kept tabs on for some time is Vitesse Arnhem captain Danilho Doekhi,” he wrote.

“The 23-year-old is out of contract in the summer and is in demand, however, Rangers are understood to be in a strong position to land him on a pre-contract deal.

“He is a player whose potential has been obvious since coming through the ranks at Ajax but he has taken on a leading role at Vitesse and, as a pacey ball-playing defender, he ticks the boxes Giovanni van Bronckhorst looks for in his centre-backs.”

Get it done.

This is a player who came through the ranks at one of the best academies in the world in the shape of Ajax and has continued his rise since.

Captaining any side isn’t just handed to anyone, and at such a young age, Doekhi has stepped up at Vitesse.

Filling that role and responsibility in European football too is just another major tick, playing against the likes of Tottenham in the Europa Conference League this year.

To get this deal over the line for nothing, it would be yet another Ross Wilson masterclass, something that is becoming familiar at Ibrox.

This strong position must be translated into a confirmed transfer, and hopefully, Doekhi can be signing on the dotted line for next season and beyond before the end of this month.
