Jack Simpson falls out of the picture completely, Rangers exit likely – report

Rangers defender Jack Simpson is now likely to leave Ibrox, according to Jordan Campbell on Thursday (6 January).

The Athletic journalist has reported that the rarely-seen enforcer has fallen out of the picture completely at Ibrox.

After arriving under Steven Gerrard last season and hardly featuring, Giovanni van Bronckhorst is also yet to utilise him.

Van Bronckhorst has had plenty of opportunities to use him too, with injuries ravaging through the Bears.

Filip Helander and Leon Balogun have both been missing for weeks now, but the selection of Calvin Bassey there has told us everything we need to know.

The Nigerian youngster has slotted across from left-back with ease and has pushed Simpson even further down the pecking order.

Not good enough.

Simpson isn’t good enough, that is very clear and an exit is the best outcome for everyone involved here.

The Telegraph have already reported interest from the English Championship, with the likes of Queens Park Rangers and Mark Warburton said to be in the race.

Bringing in another two central defenders looks to be the way forward at Ibrox, and getting rid of deadwood is only going to help that cause.

Van Bronckhorst has had more than enough time to analyse the players in his squad, and it is time to start getting rid of those who won’t have a role to play.

It looks as though Simpson will be one of the first to be shown the exit door.
