Rangers to win race to sign New York City ace James Sands – The Athletic

Rangers have won the race to sign New York City FC star James Sands in the January window, according to The Athletic.

Reliable journalist Jordan Campbell has shared that the Bears have beaten clubs from Germany and Europe’s big leagues to his signature.

The deal will be an 18-month loan with an option to buy, rather than an obligation at the end of the spell.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is set to seal his first signature at Ibrox since arriving at Ibrox in the past couple of months.

Sands is set to come through the door as Nathan Patterson is set to leave, heading the other way out of Glasgow.

The young right-back will join Everton this week, with a £16million heavily shared around from the Premier League side.

Deal done?

Van Bronckhorst will be delighted that this deal has been sorted out so quickly, with Patterson’s exit not even yet confirmed.

Sands can play at right-back if needed, as well as at the heart of defence and in midfield, with that versatility superb to have at any level.

With a settled starting XI, Sands is likely to start as a rotation option in the side, but he will be used frequently by the Bears.

Ross Wilson has also played a blinder sealing an initial 18-month loan deal, with plenty of time to assess Sands before making a financial commitment in a permanent deal after next season.

This is brilliant business, we already can’t wait for him to arrive.
