Rangers in pole position to land New York defender James Sands

Rangers are in pole position to sign New York City FC defender James Sands this week as they look to replace the outgoing Nathan Patterson.

According to the Scottish Daily Mail print edition (04/01, pg. 78), the Bears held positive talks overnight and look set to seal a loan move.

It is reported that any loan deal is expected to have a permanent clause included for the end of the season.

Sands is seen as a replacement for Patterson, but he offers Giovanni van Bronckhorst brilliant versatility too.

The 21-year-old can also play in the heart of defence as well as midfield if needed at Ibrox down the line.

New York City FC Director David Lee has previously admitted he won’t stand in the way of Sands moving across the Atlantic if the right offer is tabled – something which now looks likely.

Wow, what a week this is turning out to be for Rangers.

Losing Patterson to Everton will be a big blow, but bringing in a record-breaking £16million fee for a player who can’t even get in the starting XI is a magical piece of business.

With Sands looking set to arrive on an initial loan deal as well, it looks as though Ross Wilson is looking to use the windfall coming in elsewhere.

The 21-year-old lifted the MLS Cup last season and is now going to be given the chance to add major silverware in Scotland to that.

Time to get this one done, no one is dwelling on the past or feeling sorry for themselves at Ibrox as Patterson looks set to leave.
