SC Heerenveen open to January sale of Rangers-linked Joey Veerman
Dutch side SC Heerenveen are open to cashing on Rangers linked Joey Veerman in January, according to Dutch media outlet AD.
They were understood to not be willing to sell the 23-year-old in the summer, but have now changed their mind.
Stuart Hodge, who’s followed by renowned journalists on Twitter and works for Digi Bulletin, told Give Me Sport in December 2021 that a January move for the Dutchman could be on the cards for Rangers.
The Ibrox giants were linked with a move for the attacking midfielder all summer, but to no avail.
Heerenveen appeared hell-bent on letting him go and they got their way eventually.
Rangers did not have deep pockets to test their resolve and could not table a bid that would make them change their stance.
However, the club are now open to cashing in which is a boost for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side.
They’re also set to receive an eight-figure windfall from Nathan Patterson’s imminent sale to Everton and could use some of those funds to sign Veerman.
The Dutch connection could come in handy and Veerman undoubtedly would have watched a lot of van Bronckhorst while growing up.
Working with your boyhood heroes is a charm that many players still hold dear to their hearts and van Bronckhorst could actually tempt him to move to Scotland in January.
Whether or not Rangers are open to doing a deal for a midfielder who had a “brilliant” 2020/21 campaign, remains to be seen, but there certainly will be some at the club who’ll be pushing for an attempt this month.
