Kyle Lafferty backs Alfredo Morelos to stay at Rangers and become a legend

Former Rangers striker Kyle Lafferty has backed Alfredo Morelos to stay at Ibrox this January and go on to become a club legend.

The Colombian striker has been a revelation since joining the club back in 2017 and has scored 107 goals in 211 games for the club.

That brilliant record has seen the 25-year-old linked with a move away in January, with a reunion with Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa mooted [The Sun].

Lafferty though believes that Morelos could go on to become an Ibrox legend mentioned in the same breath as the likes of Ally McCoist if he stays at the club beyond the winter window, during an interview with Record Sport.

“Alfredo is an exceptional player and speaking as a Rangers fan I hope he stays at the club for a long time,” he said. “He is worshipped by the supporters, rightly so.

“And he can go on and break records for the club. He already has. But he can break even more if he sticks around.

“He can go on to be a Rangers legend held in the same regard as Coisty,
Hateley and other icons from down the years. I’m absolutely sure of it.

“Alfredo could be one of those players if he commits to the club and continues to progress as he has done in his four or five years in Glasgow.”

Amazing

Morelos has been a brilliant signing since joining the Gers and if he was to leave this month then no Blues fans would begrudge him.

But while a move away could boost him, he wouldn’t be loved the way he is at Rangers anywhere else.

His antics have become acceptable because of how good he is in a blue shirt and his goals have been key in helping the club get back to the pinnacle of Scottish football, seeing him described as ‘unplayable‘ in the past.

Morelos is already the leading goalscorer in Europe in the club’s history, and while he is almost guaranteed to not reach McCoist’s holy grail goal number of 355 to become the all-time top scorer he is good enough to continue to elevate his legacy.

Rangers should do all they can to keep hold of him for the rest of the season and beyond, because goals are irreplaceable and Morelos guarantees them.
