Rangers and Real Madrid in pursuit of Spain youth international Pablo Torre as valuation slashed

Rangers have made an approach to sign young Racing Santander midfielder Pablo Torre ahead of the January transfer window opening, according to Noticias de Gipuzkoa.

The Spanish newspaper reports on their website that Real Madrid and Valencia have also enquired about the 18-year-old attacking midfielder while Real Sociedad are also linked with Racing Santander “in dire need to sell” players due to their financial situation.

It is understood that Torre has a release clause at Racing worth £6.7million but due to their need to raise funds, the Spain Under-19 international could move on for a figure between £1.6million and £2.1million.

Major European Club’

Cast your minds back to earlier this week when Nottingham Forest fans were having a moan about the fact Rangers said they’re a major European club.

Since then, Forest have lost to Huddersfield and Rangers have been reported to be in a battle with Real Madrid to sign a Spain youth international.

Major European club, indeed.

Torre must be a good player to be attracting that level of attention.

He seems to have had a decent season so far with Racing Santander, scoring three goals and supplying five assists in 15 appearances in Spain’s third-tier.

Obviously, there’s a massive step up from a club in that league to one like Real Madrid so you must assume that Los Blancos have their eyes on Torre to add him to their academy.

But you’d imagine that if the 18-year-old ace swapped Santander for Glasgow, he’d be someone at least on the fringes of Giovanni van Brockhorst’s first-team due to his valuation.

Rangers wouldn’t spend a seven-figure fee for someone who isn’t going to be in the senior squad and Torre is a player who we could do with to add some extra depth in behind the strikers.

Joe Aribo’s doing an amazing job there right now but it wouldn’t hurt to have some extra depth in the form of an up-and-coming teenager from Spain.

In other Rangers news, a journalist has suggested the Gers should swoop to sign this “terrific” winger in January.
