Rangers to offer Robbie McCrorie new contract to fight for number one spot at Ibrox

Rangers outcast Robby McCrorie is understood to have a bumper new contract on the table in the near future.

That’s according to Jordan Campbell, who has shared that the Bears will likely expect him to fight for the number one shirt with Jon McLaughlin next season.

Much will depend on the future of Allan McGregor, who has been signing one-year extensions towards the end of each season at Ibrox.

Writing in his Transfer Mailbag for The Athletic, Campbell shared the latest on McCrorie after the arrival of Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

“McCrorie did well in his two appearances during the COVID-19 outbreak, is tied down until 2023 and I understand there will be an offer on the table for him at some point,” he said.

“He will be expected to challenge for the No 1 jersey next season but he and McLaughlin would back themselves to come out on top.”

Faith.

McLaughlin and McGregor have held down the fort for so long at Ibrox, it will be interesting to see what both do in the summer.

Will the latter decide to hang up his gloves? Or will he want to sign another one-year extension and go for more success in Glasgow?

McGregor has proved in recent weeks that he still has what it takes, pulling off sensational saves with ease, much to our delight.

McCrorie proved he has what it takes over the summer when playing in our first couple of European qualifiers due to COVID.

Will van Bronckhorst have seen them? He likely will have given that a new contract is being planned in the near future.

If McCrorie puts pen to paper, he must push for that number one shirt.
