Georghie Hagi says son Ianis will stay at Rangers

Ianis Hagi will be staying at Rangers in January despite interest from elsewhere, according to an update provided by his father Georghie.

Hagi has been linked with a move to Turkish outfit Galatasaray after impressing since joining the club back in January 2020 on an initial loan.

Since the arrival of Giovanni van Bronckhorst though Hagi’s place in the team has become less secure and talk of a move increased.

Despite the talk surrounding his future though, Hagi’s father spoke to reliable journalist Emanuel Rosu and said that Ianis won’t be going anywhere in January.

“I’m going to Ianis (at Christmas),” he said. “I can’t wait to see him. He’s staying with Rangers, he loves it there.”

Positive outcome

Rangers have been in brilliant form recently but that is in spite of the lack of goalscoring form from the Romanian forward.

Hagi has registered just one assist since GvB’s arrival at the club but his performances have been good overall.

Having played as a right-winger under Steven Gerrard, the role has seemingly changed in the new system under van Bronckhorst and that has seen his productivity slow down.

Despite that though, Hagi is still an incredibly important player at Ibrox and is a firm fan favourite so news that he is staying is only a positive thing for the Gers.

Speculation can stop and fans can stop worrying about their star man leaving mid-season, as they look to make it back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles and keep going in their hunt for success in the Europa League too.

It’s an early Christmas present for Rangers fans, Hagi is staying.
