Richard Foster calls for law change after Ryan Kent incident in Rangers clash v Lyon

Richard Foster has called for a law change within football after an incident in Rangers 1-1 draw against Lyon last night (9th December).

Ryan Kent was penalised for jumping for a header, despite Damien Da Silva not making any effort for the ball and forcing the attacker into a dangerous fall over his shoulders.

Foster hit back at the decision, insisting that there was no control due to Da Silva’s lack of effort and it could have landed Kent in real danger.

Speaking to the BBC during their live coverage of the game online, Foster was not pleased with what he saw in Lyon.

“Kent is unlucky there,” he said.

“That should be outlawed in football. Once you are in the air you have no control. I think that’s a really dangerous tackle.”

Got a point.

Kent was the only one to go for the ball, yet he was penalised.

It doesn’t make much sense, but when you look around football, plenty are doing that sort of thing and using it to their advantage to win set-pieces.

The winger only had eyes for the ball, whereas Da Silva looked at his man, planted his feet and made sure that he went over his body before crashing to the floor.

More has to be done to protect the attacker in that situation, and Giovanni van Bronckhorst will not have been pleased with that decision, that’s for sure.

You can’t penalise someone for going for the ball, and that has to be looked at before someone dangerous falls and seriously injures themselves.
