Ally McCoist reacts as mega Rangers clash v Barcelona mooted in Europa League

Ally McCoist has been left wishing for Rangers to be drawn against Barcelona in the next round of the Europa League.

New rules in the competitions mean that teams finishing second in the group will compete against a team dropping down from the Champions League in the round of 32.

Rangers could face the likes of Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund or RB Leipzig in what promises to be mouthwatering in February.

Speaking on BT Sports after the draw last night, McCoist shared that Barcelona was the one side he was wanting.

“I would,” he said. “What a tie for Rangers.

“What a tie for the supporters, it would be fantastic.”

Perfect for one man.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst would love to be drawn against Barcelona, but so would anyone associated with the club at Ibrox.

As Celtic yet again drop out of the competition at the group stages, it is down to the Bears to keep the ranking of Scotland high in the coefficient.

The Gers have made sure that the title-winning side in the Scottish Premiership automatically qualify for the Champions League next season.

This would offer a brilliant taste of what to expect there should we take on the Catalan giants in the Europa League, and we fancy our chances given their collapse.

Of course, we would be heavy underdogs, but what a moment it would be to welcome back the likes of Barcelona to Ibrox in what promises to be a huge occasion.

The draw is on Monday, we already can’t wait.
