Graeme Souness takes aim at 'sad' Rangers exit of Steven Gerrard this season on Sky Sports

Graeme Souness has taken aim at Steven Gerrard on Sky Sports after his exit from Rangers to join Aston Villa.

The Ibrox legend insisted that it was “sad” to see him leave Glasgow in the manner that he did, with Giovanni van Bronckhorst now in charge.

Both have enjoyed early success in their new roles, with the Dutchman continuing his 100% record against Dundee on Saturday (4th December).

Speaking on Sky Sports on Super Sunday (5th December), Souness delivered his take on Gerrard’s move to the Premier League.

“Three seasons – won the most important thing which was the league to stop Celtic making it 10 in a row,” he said.

“Sad that he’s left, sad that he left in such a manner. He feels it was the right thing for him at this time, time will tell.

“It would have been very hard for him to resist.”

There were a lot of things that didn’t quite sit right with us after Gerrard finally confirmed his exit from Ibrox last month.

First, the manager was showering us all with false promises in interviews, insisting he was happy at the club and nothing would turn his head – that changed very quickly.

Once Villa came calling, he was out of the door within 48 hours.

Taking time to sit back and look at things though, this has certainly been a blessing in disguise for the Bears and the squad.

Things were growing stale under Gerrard, no-one can deny that and Van Bronckhorst, along with his backroom staff have reignited the passion, that is for sure.

Everyone has moved on, and now it is time for the Gerrard talk to be left behind too, it’s getting tedious.
