Gio van Bronckhorst shares Rangers transfer plans for January

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has suggested that he has no idea of how the transfer window will shape up for Rangers.

The Scottish Premiership champions are choc-a-bloc with quality players in every department, but the new manager may look to stamp his own authority.

Van Bronckhorst has admitted that the window can go either way, but he hopes the Gers will have a better squad in the coming months.

“It’s a difficult one. As a coach I have had many transfer windows and it’s hard to predict what will happen, because anything can happen,” said Van Bronckhorst, as quoted by the Scotsman.

“The most important thing is to be prepared for whatever comes and that’s where all the work will have to be done between now and when the transfer window opens.

“We will see. It can go either way but hopefully at the end of the window we have a better squad than when the transfer window opens.”

“We are discussing what has to be done but so far nothing has been decided yet about bringing in some new players in defence.”

Reading between the lines

His statements clearly suggest that he has been in discussion with the Rangers board over how to improve the squad.

Gio is not the type of manager who would be looking to make drastic changes to the side. Rather, he is the sort of guy who loves to work with the resources he has got.

Moreover, he needs time to have a thorough look at the squad, and decide whether he needs any change.

At the same time, he brought up the issue of signing new players in defence.

With Conor Goldson yet to sign a new deal at the club, and Nathan Patterson’s future continuing to be linked away, Van Bronckhorst could look to bolster the defence in January.

The Rangers boss, meanwhile, has quashed reports that Goldson has rejected a new deal. He has confirmed that the club is still in talks with the player’s agent over a new contract.

The Gers probably won’t need any major signings in January, but the Dutchman could be forced into delving into the market if they end up losing some of their key players.
