Leon Balogun misses Rangers training, will return on Sunday

Rangers defender Leon Balogun will once again miss the Scottish Premiership clash against Dundee this afternoon.

The Nigerian international has missed training this week as he continues his injury rehabilitation.

Calvin Bassey is expected to continue in the heart of the defence alongside Connor Goldson after impressing in recent weeks.

Reliable journalist Jo Hendry shared the latest news on Balogun after Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s press conference on Friday (3rd December).

“Leon Balogun will also return to training with squad on Sunday,” she wrote.

Blow?

This would usually be a big blow given our problems at the back this season, but things have changed recently.

Van Bronckhorst’s arrival at the club has seen him throw his trust in Bassey to move into a central role, and it has worked out perfectly.

The Nigerian youngster has pace to burn, power and his strength is too much for opposition attackers to handle at times.

Balogun is not guaranteed to earn his spot back once he returns from tomorrow, and Bassey could count himself as very unlucky if he was taken out.

Balogun adds to the options and is an experienced head to have within the squad, but he faces a big fight on his hands moving forward.

As speculation continues to rise around Goldson and the likes of Balogun running down his deal too, there will be a lot of the squad playing for their futures in the coming weeks.
